![]() ![]() Transistor’s music is a high point – and in fact more important to the game than most. Players will outright recognize the visuals as gorgeous, but very quickly fall for the soundtrack as well. Transistor is a beautiful game in many ways. Note: This post includes heavy story spoilers for Transistor. For more Transistor content head over here. Transistor is our August 2014 “Not Crowdfunded, But…” title. Transistor is the Twilight of videogames.Transistor’s Music as an Added Layer of Story The whole thing plays out like a teenager's fan fiction. There's a difference between having a deep lore but only choose to reveal some of them (like the Souls games and Hollow Knight), versus having nothing underneath and pretend that there are (Transistor). Their dialogue consists of a bunch of disjointed, painfully cliché one-liners - "I'm cool because I say cool shit!"Īnd character development, WHAT character development? At the end of the game I have zero emotional attachment to the main characters, and I have no feelings for any of the NPC or the anatongists because they have zero personality and exist only to emit soundbites. "How about having mysterious, misunderstood villains who are only trying to do good?"Īnd then they just superglued those concepts on top of soul-less marionettes. I can almost picture the game devs/designers sitting around a table and say to each other "hey, wouldn't it be cool if.?" Like, "wouldn't it be cool if we have a female lead who have a button that makes her sing?" The characters are paper thin with barely a few sentences worth of backstory. IMHO the game tried too hard to be cool, mysterious and moody that it failed to create an interesting world and convincing characters. I still recommend it to every friend i have. I just love this game, and even tho' i know it has a lot of flaws, i still love every single second i played this game. It felt so great when you destroyed everyone in one turn, just like the feeling of dodging everything in real time.Īnd the atmosphere! I was so focused in the world, i really felt true immersion. It should have been more balanced.īut the choice between the strategy and action game was sooooo nice. Another bad thing was that some Functions were essential if you don't want to die thousand times, when others just sucked. I loved that you could mix the diffrent combination of playstyles, but i didn't liked that there was one OP combination. I instantly loved it, and I just later learned, that was music from the game. I was browsing YT, when i heard that music. The music was the thing that really dragged me into the game. The story was good (altough not great), and when you play it again it's so much more enjoyable. I love the transistor! It's one of my favourite games. I just wish there was online multiplayer for Pyre. It's the only of Supergiant's games that got me fuckin' pissed because of the outcome of what's essentially combat, and I think it's a testament to the investment I got with some of the characters and wanting very much for the outcome of a match to be different from the way it did turn out. It's been related to a sports game and that's not totally inaccurate, as the Rites are definitely a kind of athletic competition in the game, but the way it plays out is like interactive fiction tale with a lot of dialogue happening and with a variety of little, varyingly impactful decisions you make as a character in the story. Makes the music a dynamic part of the game.Īs for some of the people saying to check out Pyre, I'd recommend it too but it's different. I really enjoy no matter what song is playing in the fights when you open up the turn() interface it basically goes to a very slow, hummed version of it. I've played through the game multiple times, utilizing the different skills in different slots all over the place. ![]() The old /r/patientgamers Essential Games List Please use flair to display what games you’re currently playing, not a punch line, username, tag, URL, or signature.
